Check in at Zion/Springdale hotel
Gather for a fun and informative WELCOME DINNER with Kim Blackman, your St George Art Tours Host.
Meet your Art Instructor.
Following breakfast at the hotel we embark on a painting and photo safari, to be held at the Artist’s Retreat at Zion, a new venue just outside of the park. Our special instructor, Mary Rose O’Connell will be with us everywhere, to assist with color blending, framing, and anything you might need to get the best out of your paints and cameras. About three hours later Lunch will be on your own in the cute little town of Springdale, Utah. Then a walk about, followed by return to the hotel for more painting, or swimming pool time. Dinner at Oscars.
Enjoy breakfast in the hotel cafe. Early birds are invited to set up and paint more before hotel check out.
Then we’re off on a canyon and sites tour of Upper Zion for photography. DIY Lunch will be at the Zion Lodge.
Then on to more touring of Lower Zion for more photo ops. Dinner at Balcony One on the way to checking in to the hotel in St. George.
Breakfast will again be on our own, because there are at least a dozen cafes on the vicinity of our St George hotel. Then we bus it to Snow Canyon, our painting location in the canyon and desert area. Breathtaking horizons will enthrall painters and photographers alike. Light hiking will be part of this day trip, but nothing too strenuous for most. And those with a little more vigor are welcome to hike further into the stunning canyons with our expert guides. We’ll have a box lunch with us to enjoy in the great outdoors… a picnic! We’ll go back to the hotel to clean up, because dinner is a lesson from a gourmet chef, wheee we’ll help prepare what we eat.
This day we set you loose in St. George so Breakfast and Lunch will be on your own. Discover the rich culture and traditions of St. George. Visit villagers arts and craftsmanship, meet the locals, and learn about their customs and traditions. We have arrangged a downtown painting location...Pioneer Park or visit to Sears Art Museum.
Dinner at the Xatava and evening entertainment will be the live action musical Elf.
Breakfast at the hotel. Fair well to all. Transportation back to Las Vegas is provided those leaving from that airport. For your planning we hope to be in Las Vegas airport vicinity by 1pm.
Believe it or not, the seed for the St. George Tour Company was planted in New York City! That is where my 7th-grade history teacher shared a slide show (remember those?) of his family’s summer cross- country vacation. Once I saw the wide open spaces of the west, the clear blue skies, and most memorably, the stunning red rock canyons and mesas, I knew my life’s goal was to live among it all. It turned out to be a long journey. One that took me to Buffalo, Miami, and Los Angeles before I discovered, and managed to set domicile in, St George, Utah!
My career was just as varied – public school teacher, cross-country teen tour leader, lawyer, art gallery owner, and international art producer. But, through it all, my heart always longed for travel, especially as a tour guide. While other kids in school wanted to be pilots and policemen, I wanted to be a concierge! While my peers in law school were studying corporate law, I was designing marketing materials for tours to Africa. And while spending a year in China, it was not usual for me to assist the hotel staff by helping my fellow English- speaking guests with what to do and see in Beijing, Shanghai, or Hong Kong.
So when, a couple of years ago, I was working in downtown St. George and folks would wander in and ask what there was to do, I would light up! And they got an earful! After a bit, I shared these experiences with a gal at the Greater Zion Tourist Bureau and, seeing my unbridled enthusiasm, she suggested a tour company. St. George Tour Company was thus born and began garnering (exclusively) 5 stars.

We recommend booking your tour as early as possible to ensure availability. Popular tours may sell out quickly, especially during peak tourist season.
We recommend bringing comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, (check mid-November in Southern Utah for ideas), a sun hat and sunscreen, your painting supplies, a travel easel, folding chair, art board, and a camera (or use your mobile phone). We can provide you with an address to send your items in advance, to lighten your luggage. Or you can purchase chairs and the like from a website and have them delivered to us. Some tours may require additional items, which will be noted in the tour description.
Yes, we offer individual and group tours. Please contact us directly to inquire about group rates and availability.
Yes. We find that many people want to extend their journey to The West, so we don’t make any specific reservations for your flights or other transportation options to our artist retreats. We do however provide a private van to take you from Las Vegas to St. George on the first day of our event, and back to Las Vegas on the last day. We feel that this adds value and economy to your trip, as flights and other transportation into Las Vegas are plentiful and affordable.
Yes, but you will be charged for them, in full, and they will be your double-occupancy assigned roommate. Much of the fees for the trip are related to non painting or photography expense.
Teenage artists are welcome when accompanied by a guardian adult. They will be charged the full price, and will share double occupancy with their guardian. Children under 13 are not encouraged to come, long hours of detailed art creation is not their cup of tea.
